Overview of Visa Processing for Japan
Secure Admission to a Japanese Educational Institution
Before applying for a visa, you must be accepted into a recognized educational institution in Japan. Obtain the essential admission documents from the institution along with the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) issued by the Japanese government.
Gather the Required Documents
Collect all necessary documents for your visa application. These typically include:
- Valid passport
- Passport-sized photographs
- Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Japanese government
- Japanese language certificate or proof of passing a Japanese language test
- Any additional documents required by the Embassy of Japan in Nepal
Complete the Visa Application Form
Fill out the visa application form accurately and legibly. Application forms are usually available on the official website of the Embassy of Japan in Nepal or through VFS Global (Japan Visa Application Center, Kathmandu).
Schedule an Appointment
The Embassy of Japan in Nepal has partnered with VFS Global. Applicants must schedule an appointment in advance at VFS Global to submit their visa application.
Submit Your Application
Visit VFS Global (Japan Visa Application Center, Kathmandu) on the scheduled date and time. Bring all required documents, including your passport, completed application form, and supporting documents. Submit the application and pay the applicable visa fee.
Wait for Processing
Visa processing usually takes around 6 working days from the time of submission to VFS Global. However, processing times can vary. The Embassy may review your documents and verify information with your educational institution. In some cases, processing may take more than two months, so it is advisable to apply well in advance.
Collect Your Passport
Once your student visa is approved, you can collect your passport from VFS Global (Japan Visa Application Center, Kathmandu). Your visa will be affixed to your passport.
